Melbourne Stars skipper Glenn Maxwell knocked his first Big Bash century but Josh Philippe countered his effort with a 99 not out knock of his own to lead Sydney Sixers to a seven-wicket victory on Wednesday at MCG. Maxwell took 10 seasons, 91 games, and 86 innings to post his first century, with Andre Russell supporting him on the field. Stars had the worst possible start with Sixers restricting them to 2-12 in the first four overs.
Maxwell and Nick Larkin posted 53 runs for the third wicket partnership but Larkin then fell to Dan Christian and then his partners came and went but Maxwell kept his focus and ended with 103 from 57 balls and a standing ovation with Stars ending with 5-177 but Sixers chased the target with ease and grabbed the win.
