A single goal from Griezmann gave Atletico victory in the opening La Liga game.

As Diego Simeone's team recovered from an unexpected home loss to Villarreal, Antoine Griezmann scored off the bench to give Atletico Madrid a 1-0 La Liga victory against Valencia on Monday. In the 66th minute, Griezmann scored Atletico's winning goal with help from Thomas Lemar, another replacement. Lemar made a strong solo move from the left touchline and found Griezmann on the edge of the box. Griezmann fired a shot that was deflected past the defenceless goalkeeper off the back of the defender.

Cunha came on with ten minutes left and attempted to score with a header, but the goal was disallowed for offside. He also missed a wonderful opportunity that would have hit the crossbar because he was offside. Carrasco missed a good opportunity at the very end but did well to waste time, keep up attacks, and release pressure with his ball carries.
