Liverpool 3-1 Southampton
Liverpool FC’s departing Uruguayan international Darwin Nunez gave two goals and a match-winning performance in the 3-1 victory over Southampton in his farewell game. Jurgen Klopp, who was sitting in the second tier of the Main Stand due to his one-match touchline ban but in constant communication with Vitor Matos, could have observed different things from the coach.
Having experienced a substantial boost in form as a result of his seven goals in his last 10 matches, the club moved in the mid-season break up the curve. Roberto Firmino scored in the first minute and, although Che Adams levelled immediately right after Nunez scored, Nathan Jones took over as caretaker manager after Ralph Hasenhuttl was sacked. Liverpool’s starting eleven will return to Qatar after the World Cup, but without Ibrahima Konate and Jordan Henderson .
