Giovanni Simeone’s early goal proved to be the final effort that gave Verona a win, while Genoa suffered their first defeat under new coach Alexander Blessin. Genoa was on an unbeaten run from the past seven consecutive stalemates and Verona took it upon themselves to take down the team.
Antonin Barak, Kevin Lasagna, Gianluca Frabotta and Pawel Dawidowicz were absent for the match while visitors were without Leo Ostigard, Zinho Vanheusden, Mattia Bani, Andrea Cambiaso and Nicolò Rovella but needed just five minutes to overpower the other side and set the tone of the match. Genoa had the chance to level the score at the 68th minute but could not find the back of the net.
